Well, to paint the cars skins here are some rules you HAVE to go by or it
won't work.

1) Use Paint Shop Pro, Latest version (5.0)

2) Stay in the lines. If you paint outside the lines it can screw up
the alpha channel of the cars and make them look odd when using them
in Need For Speed.

3) MOST IMPORTANT.. Do not select save as when selecting. For some
reason if you save the file this way it screws up the alpha channel.
The ONLY way you can save, is when you are done editing the file,
close the program (Paint Shop Pro) When it asks if you want to save
changes say YES. This is the only way I could find that it would
properly save the alpha channel. Again, if you save it any other way
you will mess up the paint job.
Make sure the file is 257k when done. (The TGA that is)

4) After you have saved the skins, re-encode the VIV file using your
new skin. Go into nd4spd and bring up the car. Everything I have
learned I got from this site and if you have patience you can do all
kinds of cool stuff with it.
(Hey, what is this secret car that TTSUPRA found? I went through all
the viv files within Need for speed and did not find anything not
already enabled. I did notice the cargo truck has its own slide..
Odd..)

>ps. try to play w/ the editor, but somethink stinks in editor's case it's
>definitely the 3DX file.... u can open it as well by the editor... u can
>edit other cars, but there's always chance that something fucks up and u
>get back to stupid countach =/

Here is what I did, I deleted all the countach files EXECPT for the
.3dx and the .art file. Then whenever I am editing a car I just dump
all the files into the countach directory.
The editor is very odd. The only thing I have been able to do so far
is move the lights, and change the vertices a little. If you try to
change the colors it gets screwy looking. Wish there was a help or
text file on using this thing. If you know of anything please let me
know.
Once I learn how to reshape all the stuff in a file, I WILL send you
some new bodies and cars. The reason I sent you the whole cars instead of
just the skins was because I edited the fedata.eng file and the .fce files
to work properly. If I had not you would not be able to drive the Trooper
car and the Sheriff car with out re-loading and re-encoding when ever you
wanted to switch. Try installing them like I told about, and you will have
both cars chasing you at hometown. :)
